Baby Blues and Infanticide

Monday, 2/11/2013

BETWEEN 20% and 34% of new mothers in Jamaica suffer from postpartum illnesses, the most severe form of which can cause them to harm their babies. Yvonnie Bailey-Davidson, a former president of the Jamaica Psychiatric Association, who spoke to the Jamaica Observer via email last week cited the more conservative figure, while a study carried out by University of the West Indies recorded the higher prevalence rate.

Bring Out the Candles

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

Decorate For A Romantic Evening:

  1. Dim the lights
  2. Create a space to snuggle. Rather than stretching out on the couch, as you might any other night of the week. Put a blanket in front of the fire with some throw pillows and enjoy a glass of wine or watch a movie.
  3. Draw inspiration from a sophisticated, elegant restaurant.

Time to remember that you were a couple before you were a parent.

Hire a Sitter

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

SAVING ONE RELATONSHIP AT A TIME.

Pop open the bubbly and get out your crystal flutes, Momsters. It’s time to celebrate with your husbands, lovahs, or friends!

Don’t sit around and wonder where the romance went. Go out and get it. Even if you think it’s locked up in a cupboard somewhere in the basement, celebrate the s%$# out of it. It will come out of hiding. We promise.

Send Each Other Romantic Messages Throughout the Day

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

Ideas for Romantic Text Messages to Send to your partner in order to stay connected:

♥ If I had the letters "HRT", I can add "EA" to get a "HEART" or a "U" and get "HURT". But I'd rather choose "U" and get "HURT" than have a "HEART" without "U".

♥ If you wake up one day & were asked to have a wish, what would it be? Mine would be that our love would last until you see an apple in an orange tree.

♥  God is wise when he did not put a price tag on you darling. If he did, I won't be able to afford to have a boyfriend (girlfriend) as precious as you.

♥ Just caught myself daydreaming about you. I love you so much. XX

♥ I miss the laughs I used to get from you, I miss the talks we used to have. And above all, I just miss YOU!

The expression of love serves as a constant reminder that keeps the passion alive in a relationship. If it has been long since you wrote anything sweet to your partner, just send any of these suggested romantic text messages and watch the magic and romance unfold. It is one the easiest no-fail formulas to make your bond stronger and remember that you were a couple before you were a parent.

Keep Things Fun by Flirting

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

Flirting never goes out of style, even in long-term relationships.

Treat each other like lovers, not roommates. After years of living together, it’s easy to slip into a habit of wearing old sweatpants, letting your grooming slip, or even forgetting to shut the bathroom door. Remember, you were a couple before you were a parent.

Give Each Other a Foot Massage

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

Give A Great Foot Massage to each other.

Take a good look at your feet after they've spent a day in snug leather shoes. What do they look like? Feel like? Are your feet pink and healthy and rarin' to go and run about? Probably not. More likely your ten toes are squished against each other, resembling sardines in a can. The skin of your feet looks lifeless, perhaps gray in color and slightly clammy to the touch. Let's liven them up and help you reconnect with your parent by giving each other a foot massage!

Remember, you were a couple before you were a parent.

Enjoy Dessert in Bed

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

How to have dessert in bed:

Here are several tips and tactics to inspire you to celebrate love. If you're looking to sweeten up your relationship, you can serve your partner dessert in bed - even if you like fruit instead of cake. What you should do is have your partner go to bed as they normally would. This works well when your partner doesn't immediately fall asleep, though. When they're getting ready for bed, bring out a tray with dessert and one spoon or fork. Share the dessert back and forth between each other without speaking, if you can. Just play some soft romantic music and see what happens. Other tips and tactics: place a small chocolate on your partner's pillow; Make a dessert date - have your partner request a certain dessert to be served in bed, but don't tell them when you plan on doing it; extend this date to a whole meal in bed.

Keep Love Alive With a 10 Second Kiss

Wednesday, 2/6/2013

Everytime you greet each other after being away from one another for a period of time, you have to kiss for 10 seconds. It doesn't matter if you had a bad day or not. This is a way to reconnect and remember that you were a couple before you were a parent.

Young Women get a Running Start in Politics

Monday, 2/4/2013

Our current political system shows an exciting number of women in office, however, the pipeline is running thin. There are fewer women than ever in positions that feed into upper level political offices, a fact that Running Start is working hard to change. The organization was born in 2007 from the non-partisan Women Under Forty Political Action Committee. Running Start currently supports and trains young women for the journey into politics with programs for women of all ages.

Using Twitter to Predict Maternal Mental Health Disorder

Friday, 2/1/2013

In an article on the website listed above in January, 2013 from MGH Center for Women's Health, researchers found that they were able to identify fairly accurately (71%) which mothers may have a maternal mental health disorder after they gave birth based on analyzing their behavioral and emotional changes pre- and post baby using data they collected off of social media.
